Designer Prom Dresses Make Prom Extraordinary

For young girls, there are a few events that require a formal attire, starting with a baptismal gown to dresses for a flower girl dress, junior high graduations, and, maybe, a bridesmaid dress. But in high school, the most anticipated dress is the one selected for prom night.

Some girls are compelled to wear hand-me-downs or gowns from second-hand shops. Others are forced into choosing from a small selection at chain discount department stores. It is not unlike their future quest for a wedding dress. It’s a personality driven issue. Many girls love the hunt, the build-up and the hours and hours of research. The same young lady who exerts such efforts into finding a prom dress will do the same for her bridal attire.

But right now, teenage girls’ hearts are all aflutter over the prospect of prom and the excitement of the very first consideration: the dress. And the yes-to-the-dress is likely to be for a designer prom dress. This isn’t surprising given the flurry of photos of starlets in evening gowns that grace the webpages and magazine pages. Understandably, many young girls look up to what their just-slightly-older-than-they-are idols – Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Kendell Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Bella Thorne, Zendaya – are wearing when walking the red carpet for movie premieres, parties and other Hollywood events.

Sure, there was a time when it was an oxymoron to say designer prom dresses, because, at one time, prom dresses were the exclusive bailiwick of the teen and her mom or friends: in front of a sewing machine.

Today, many prom gowns are purchased off the peg, directly from shops specializing in prom. Luckily for these excited young ladies as they are now able to access, try-on, and purchase the kinds of dresses once reserved only for the elite, for socialites and celebs, the aforementioned designer prom dresses.

And unsurprisingly, designers are acknowledging that not only have teens saved for a designer dress, but they look fantastic when they wear them. That said, it definitely appears it has become a designer trend to create dresses and gowns for the younger clientele – and it’s a customer-base who are heading to junior/senior prom.

As you would with any big project, do research. By no means are we trying to suggest you shouldn’t look for designer prom dresses! Definitely do it, but, as is the case with any fashion designer, styles vary. For example, the designer Sean is best known for intricately beaded dresses, whereas the label Night Moves doesn’t only evoke memories of Bob Seger, it also represents a fashion line for girls who are about having fun, taking risks. Sherri Hill and Panoply, for example can boast red-carpet worth and destined gowns, combining charm, with high drama and sophistication. One of the best known designers, the aforementioned Sherri Hill is popular with young sophisticated celebrities. Many celebrities have donned Hill’s dresses, including Bella Thorne, Selena Gomez, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and even Paris Hilton.

Go Ahead, Show Off!

A quality dress, either with or without embellishments, is within the grasp of teenagers. Given the year of angst and agitation, there’s really no reason a tenacious teen shouldn’t go ahead, research and enjoy the process of purchasing a designer dress, to the envy of friends, frenemies, and all other prom attendees.
